Computer Applications students will be introduced to a variety of applications and more. Word processing, spreadsheets and presentations to list a few. It is my aim to challenge my students and encourage my students to always want to learn more. My goal most of all is prepare my students for the real world by doing real world assignments. Monday 9/04/2016 - No School: Labor Day!! Tuesday 9/05/2016 - Create Your Own Design Cycle: Today students will get with partner and design their very own design cycle. The design cycle should display all the information from the original IB Design Cycle, but students will be able to create it in their own vision and a way to help others learn about the cycle and it's purpose. On the display students must have the following: - Display should be titled "Design Cycle". This should be at the top center of your display - All the categories of the Design Cycle - All the steps of each category - Students must include a section titled "Purpose of Design Cycle" At the lower left or lower right corner of their display. Under this section students will write one paragraph explaining the purpose of the design cycle and why is it important to always implement the design cycle when solving problems. Wednesday 9/06/2016 - : Thursday 9/07/2016 - : Friday 9/08/2016 - 1st Test: Today students will take a test on the IB learner profile, design command terms and the design cycle. Students must review all that was done in class since the first week of school. Week of 8/28/2016 Students will begin working with the design cycle by working on a solution on how to display what IB Design is and the role it plays in their education in the classroom and also the IB Design command terms. Monday 8/28/2016 - STAR Diagnostic and IB Design Command Terms: Today students will take the STAR test to determine their AR level. Once students have completed this they will then begin working on the worksheet provided to them. On the worksheet they are giving a list of all the Design Command terms and the IB definition of each term. Students will then research the definition of each term and rewrite that definition in THEIR OWN WORDS. Command Terms Worksheet Tuesday 8/29/2016 - : IB Design Command Terms, Design Objectives and Design Cycle: Today students will complete the Design command terms worksheet. We will then discuss the objectives of Design and the Design cycle. Students will be given a code to log into nearpod to view presentation and answer questions as we go along. Wednesday 8/30/2016 - Design Objectives, Design Cycle and Design Criteria: Today students will be introduced to the design objectives, design cycle and design criteria. Students will access the presentation in nearpod and also answer questions when prompted to do so. Students will also be given a code and instructed to sign up for edpuzzle. A video on the design cycle has been given and must be completed by Sept. 4th. Thursday 8/31/2016 - How Do Computers Work Webquest: Students will log into schoology and complete the assignment How Do Computers Work. Students will use google to research the question and will then respond in complete sentences in schoology. Students MUST respond to each question in their own words. If assignment is completed before the period is over, students must review all the Design Command Terms and their IB definition to prepare for their quiz on Friday. (worksheet with the terms and definition can be found above under Monday 8/28/2017 date) Friday 9/01/2016 - Quiz: There will be a quiz on the Design Command Terms and the IB definition of each. Week of 8/21/2017 As this is the first week that students return to school, students will be introduced to the rules and procedure for computer applications. Students will also be introduced to IB Design Year 2 and the role computer applications plays in Design. All supplies must be in by Friday August 25th. Monday 8/21/2017 - Classroom Rules and Procedures Tuesday 8/22/2017 - What to expect from Computer Applications and Syllabus: Students will be introduced to the topics and websites that will be used in computer applications. Students will be provided with class syllabus which will be needed to be reviewed with parents, signed and returned to Ms. Nugent by Monday August 28th, 2017. Presentation Access pin For NearPod.com : Wednesday 8/23/2017 - Emergency Procedures and Class Website Registration: We will review class emergency procedures and also register for the class website. Students will be given a code. We will also explore google apps and collection of student gmail email will be collected. Thursday 8/24/2017 - Introduction to MYP Design: Students will be introduced to MYP Design. They will learn the objectives, criteria s and what the design cycle and what it is used for. Students will also be introduced to the Design command terms.
